Aspen Music Festival and School: Summer Music Festival in Aspen Made for Classical Music Lovers
A world class music festival in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, the Aspen Music Festival and School is known for impressive performances, hundreds of events, and exceptional composition selections. Each season, the Aspen Music Festival selects a theme that guides the music selection for each of the events and performances. The theme allows festival attendees, music students, and visiting soloists to deeply explore one facet of the musical world throughout the entirety of one summer.
During the Aspen Music Festival's summer season, musicians perform hundreds of concerts featuring orchestral music from renowned composers, including Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, and many more. In addition to orchestral music, the Aspen Music Festival presents operas, master classes, recitals, and more. For lovers of classical music, the Aspen Music Festival and School is by far the premier summer music festival in the country.
The Aspen Music Festival performs concerts at multiple Aspen locations throughout the summer season. The most spectacular concert venue is the Benedict Music Tent, located in Aspen's West End neighborhood near the Aspen Center for Physics and the Aspen Institute. Seating 500 people, the Joan and Irving Harris Concert Hall is located next to the Benedict Music Tent, and provides an intimate environment for a musical performance. The Aspen Music Festival also holds performances at the Matthew and Carolyn Bucksbaum Campus located near the hospital along Castle Creek Road and at the Wheeler Opera House in downtown Aspen.
At the beginning of each summer, talented young musicians from across the country and the world travel to Aspen for a summer of musical immersion set in an inspiring natural environment. The Aspen Music School welcomes approximately six hundred students for the summer music festival. Students have the incredible opportunity to perform with renowned soloists, composers, and conductors.
For those who participate in the Aspen Music Festival not as a student or musician but as an ardent listener and attendee, festival goers can purchase individual tickets or passes for Aspen Music Festival concerts. The Aspen Music Festival offers a variety of festival passes that cater to how often festival goers plan to attend festival performances.
One reason why so many people travel from all over the world to visit Aspen in the summer is not only to scale to the top of Aspen Mountain or to gaze at the beauty of the Maroon Bells, but also to attend performances by the Aspen Music Festival and School. With anywhere from 3 – 7 musical performances and events held each day, festival goers can spend their Aspen summer vacation enjoying world class classical music performances.
